Tips for Business shirts
Being a manufacturer of business shirts we are quite often contacted by our customers and asked for our opinion on the correct procedure in washing business shirts. There is no live by rule for this question and different people have different methods in how they care for their shirts. Assuming you haven’t dropped your lunch down the front of your business shirt or happen to perspire excessively you have three parts of your shirt you need to look at, the collar, underarm and cuffs. Generally speaking, if not treated correctly these areas can affect the look of your shirt and over time will start to look shabby and the edges may even get a worn look.
Washing your business shirt
Always undo all buttons including cuffs and remove collar stays to prevent uneven wear before putting shirts in the wash, that way if you have button down collars the collar points won’t be compromised during the wash cycle.
It is recommended to turn business shirts inside out this protects the mother of pearl buttons from chipping but not everyone remembers to do this. Wash shirts between 30-60c or 86-140f (be careful of hot washing temperatures) but make sure you always read and follow the washing instructions. Some fine cotton and light weight business shirts should be washed on a delicate cycle and some dark colors should be washed on cold to stop fading.
A pre-treatment of stain remover on the collar, armpits and cuffs will give your business shirt that extra clean look after washing. If you don’t have any stain remover on hand mix a small amount of water with washing powder and treat the effected areas.
