It may be hot, maybe you’re attending a casual event or maybe your workplace requires a collared shirt. Wear a shirt with no jacket.
No matter the reason it’s like anything else in fashion as long as you look good doing it you’ll look good doing it.
Get a shirt that fits
No matter what you do make sure all your business shirts fit you. View our guide on a proper fitting business shirts to get an idea on how your business shirts should fit.
Combination of pants and Business Shirts
Khaki or a light tan pants look great with business shirts and has been a staple among men for years. It’s not a great idea to wear solid colored business shirts with these style pants so try and wear business shirts with patterns, either striped or checked business shirts look great. Throw in a bright tie if you keen and leather shoes should be worn.
The opposite applies above if you wear pants that are a bit flashy. If you are wearing a pair of outgoing pants make sure your business shirts are a simple and solid colors this will help even out your look. Shoes are a bit different. With flashy pants go flashy shoes. Maybe some loafers without sock.
Jeans are also a great look with business shirts. A great Friday work kit is a pair of blue jeans preferably not loose fitting with a patterned tucked in business shirt. Rolling up the sleeve is a causal look and goes well with the casual jeans. Make sure your rolled up sleeve is narrow and tight. Boots look great with jeans.
Make sure you tuck your business shirts in tight and the major factor to looking good with the above looks is confidence. Confidence is just as important as what you wear.
Afternoon, just a query, your 2nd paragraph says “If you are wearing a pair of outgoing pants make sure your business shirts are a simple and sold colours this will help even out your look” – what are “sold” colours? Also, with black business pants, or pinstriped business pants, how much pattern, stripe or check is too much? I am the kind of guy who thought it OK to have checked shorts with striped top until my partner told me otherwise…. Great site BTW, very informative and clear
Hi Darryl,
Thanks for the comments and for picking up the spelling error. It was meant to read “solid colours”.
On pattern matching, I always wear either pinstripe pants and a solid coloured shirt or plain pants and any pattern shirt. If you do wear multiple striped pieces, make sure the stripes are different sizes. The topic is a great idea for a blog. I’ll let you know when I’ve posted it. Thanks
